Feb. 17
Evaluation needed
4:42 p.m. — 700 block of Jungle Queen Way
. Animal Bite. Man told police that while walking his dog, another dog approached and bit his dog several times. Because the owner of the second dog was unable to produce any documentation of his dog’s vaccines, police advised that a veterinarian perform an evaluation of the canine victim.

New leash on life
9:21 a.m. — 700 block of Longboat Court.
Code Enforcement. A woman called to report that her neighbor refuses to walk her large Irish setter with a leash because she says there is no leash law on Longboat Key. Police promised to keep a lookout for the lady and let her know a leash law on the island does exist.

Couple’s counseling
9:59 p.m. — 200 block of Sands Point Road
. Disturbance. A couple vacationing at a local resort told police that they had gotten into a fight. Both parties claimed they were pushed during the argument. Neither wanted to press charges, and the woman agreed to spend the night at a different hotel.

Feb. 18
Bumper to bumper?
10:09 a.m. — 5400 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive (GMD).
Traffic Complaint. A man came to the police station and reported that another driver rode up on his bumper. Police contacted the man driving the second car, who claimed he did nothing wrong except get behind a driver “who was driving slower than most people walk.”

Roaming Rovers

4:29 p.m. — 100 block of North Shore Road
. Code Enforcement. Police saw two dogs on Beer Can Island and explained to their owners that dogs aren’t allowed to roam the island. All parties complied and left in a boat.

Bonfire hopes extinguished
7:34 p.m. — Jewfish Key.
Fire. Police informed a man renting a home on Jewfish Key that it was against town code to have a bonfire on the island. The man agreed to extinguish the fire and apologized.

Feb. 19
Camp nowhere
8:20 a.m. — 2100 block of GMD.
Code Enforcement. Police found a tent on the beach with five college kids inside. Police explained that even though they thought it might be fun to camp on the beach, it’s not allowed under town code.

Feb. 20
Party’s over
12:37 a.m. — Intersection of Broadway and GMD
. Code Enforcement. Five teenagers were told they couldn’t be on the beach late at night and couldn’t park their cars on private property. One of the teenagers had his driver’s license confiscated because it was suspended for failure to pay fines.

Spa scene
5:09 p.m. — 300 block of GMD
. Trespassing. Resort officials told police that a former club member who was no longer in good standing was causing a disturbance in the spa. He was issued a trespass warning in front of police.

All wet
8:45 p.m. — 4400 block of GMD
. Code Enforcement. Police noticed that sprinklers from a condominium complex were spraying onto the east side of Gulf of Mexico Drive; vehicles were swerving to avoid the water. Attempts made to shut off the sprinklers were unsuccessful.

If you can’t say anything nice ...
11:08 p.m. — 4700 block of GMD
. Civil Disturbance. Two drunken women were screaming obscenities at each other in a hotel bar. Hotel employees had no rooms available and wanted the women to leave. A cab was called for the ladies.

Feb. 22
Dog denied
10:30 a.m. — 3200 block of GMD
. Animal Nuisance. A woman was told she couldn’t take her German shepherd on the beach.

Money matters
1:36 p.m. — 5400 block of GMD
. Lost Property. A man told police he lost his wallet, which contained several credit cards, his driver’s license and $40 in cash.
