Senior swimmers race to personal bests

Lakewood Ranch YMCA WaveRunners senior swimmers Shannon McCarthy, Maya McCarthy and Kevin Berkenbusch posted impressive finishes at the Florida Swimming Spring Senior Championships Feb. 25-27 in Orlando.

Shannon McCarthy finished seventh in the 50-yard freestyle (24.42) and 15^th in the 100 freestyle (53.70) and qualified for the Junior Nationals March 16 and 19 in Orlando. Maya McCarthy set a new personal best in the 100 backstroke (1:09.31); and Berkenbusch posted personal bests in the 200 freestyle (1:58.03), 50 freestyle (24.29), 100 freestyle (52.85) and 100 backstroke (1:06.39).
