+ Cell tower is needed on Longboat
Dear Editor:
This is our second year as visitors for two months, and I am appalled at your lack of action on placing a cell tower so we can have contact with the world while here. We have had several important calls that were missed due to lack of cell reception. We are from a seashore town in New Jersey, whose population swells just like Longboat, and as a member of the zoning board we installed a tower for both resident and visitor convenience, plus emergencies, back in the late ’90s. There was no negative feedback with the proposal, and your proposal is much more unobtrusive to the eye. Stop all the delay and do what is right, convenient and up-to-date for your citizens and visitors.

+ Key swans go over swimmingly
Dear Editor:
Longboat Key and Publix are very interested in the swans, Henry and Vicki. Our cousin, Karen, from Port Charlotte, wrote this poem below and presented it to us.

“The Swans”
The swans of Longboat Key reside,
In an open space where they can’t hide.
One name Henry, one named Vicki,
Do they have any offspring named “Mickey”?
Beautiful, graceful and carefully they swim
Watching with caution for prey from a limb.
Life is challenging no matter what or who we are,
Remember to always look up and follow “the star.”
