9 p.m. — 800 block of Siesta Drive. Suspicious Incident. A woman called police to let them know that she often sees several boats docking at Edwards Island, near the Siesta Drive Bridge, and hears parties there at night. She suggested the police break up the parties.

March 21
Early arrival
3:34 p.m. — 3800 block of South Tamiami Trail. Careless Driving. A woman was trying to park her car outside an optometrist’s office when she accidentally jumped the parking bumper and struck the curb. But the accident had nothing to do with her eyesight. She had removed her shoes while she was driving, and the shoes were still on the driver’s side floor. One shoe got stuck under the brake pedal and prevented the car from stopping properly.

Say cheese
6:25 p.m. — 4100 block of Central Sarasota Parkway. Disturbance. The complainant has been involved in a months-long dispute with a neighbor. On the above date, the complainant’s young daughter was walking the dog and saw the neighbor taking pictures of the complainant’s car. The complainant ran outside and confronted the neighbor. Both parties have been taking photos of each other during their ongoing feud. The neighbor got into his car, but the complainant stood in front of it, so he couldn’t leave. The complainant then stepped away, but her daughter then stepped in front of the car. The complainant grabbed her daughter, and the neighbor departed.

March 22
Nervous Nellie
12:40 p.m. — 1900 block of Ringling Boulevard. Forgery. A man handed a teller a check to cash, along with his driver’s license. The teller began running a routine background on the check, and the man became nervous. He grabbed his ID and demanded the check be returned. The teller said it would only take a minute, but the man was insistent. She gave him the check and later determined it was forged. But the man had provided his real driver’s license and had a checking account at that bank. The case was not difficult to solve.

You’re on candid camera
4 p.m. — 3800 block of South Tamiami Trail. Theft. A woman’s wallet was stolen from her supermarket shopping cart. The thief then made purchases at two department stores. The victim happened to work at one of those department stores and had easy access to the surveillance tape.

Looks fishy
7 p.m. — 1 block of Marina Plaza. Burglary. The owner of a fishing boat reported an on-board burglary. Someone had jimmied the door to get inside and stole 11 fishing rods, valued at $1,600.

March 23
Fair-weather friend
12:32 a.m. — 3000 block of Ringling Boulevard. Theft. A county fair worker had just cashed his $800 paycheck and stuffed the wad of cash in his wallet. He placed his wallet in his mobile home and left. When he returned, his wallet was gone. The man said a co-worker and friend knew where the wallet was, and he suspects his friend committed the crime.

The good news is that the marina, where the boat was docked, has surveillance cameras. The bad news is they don’t work.
