To celebrate National Nurses Appreciation Week May 6-12, Woodland — the Community Church will be baking and delivering cookies to nurses at Lakewood Ranch Medical Center and schools in the area as part of the "Luvin' from the Oven" campaign.

The church also will be partnering with others from as far away as California to deliver cookies to more than 50,000 nurses.

“It has been a true blessing to be able to show our appreciation to those in our community who take care of us when we are hurting,” said Tina Yoder, Woodland’s director of ministry involvement.

Kari Knop, core measure coordinator at Lakewood Ranch Medical Center, has been working with Yoder to ensure nurses on all shifts receive cookies.

Woodland also plans to thank other nurses in the area by distributing cookies to some of the school nurses and medical care facilities such as the Bradenton Cardiology Center.

The Global Association of Christian Hospitality Professionals started the outreach campaign several years ago. GACHP along with FMS (a food supplier for many churches) have reached out to their contacts. Almost all the supplies needed for the cookie donations have been donated.
