Cops Corner

The following information was gathered from incident and arrest reports obtained from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

COUNTRY OAKS
May 11 
 3 p.m. — 7900 block of Cypress Lake Drive. Burglary to an unoccupied dwelling. The responding deputy arrived at the scene in reference to a burglary. Upon arrival, he spoke with the victims, who informed him that $475 in cash had been stolen from the second bedroom. It appeared as if the suspect entered through the unlocked second bathroom window or the unlocked back door. There are no suspects at this time.

MYAKKA CITY
May 9
 10:03 p.m. — 40102 S.R. 70 E. (Dakin Dairy). Information. The victim stated he has an eyewitness who saw the suspect stealing fuel. The victim contacted his employee, who later responded to the scene. While the responding deputy was waiting for the employee to arrive, the victim stated in a demanding manner, “I want him arrested right now for stealing our fuel. I started the eviction process on him, and he is trespassing on our property. If you don’t arrest him, I’ll call (Sheriff Brad) Steube in the morning.”

Reported May 10
 11 a.m. — 29200 block of State Road 64 E. Grand theft. Unknown person(s) entered the unsecured property and drove to a diesel fuel storage tank located about one-half mile north of State Road 64. The person(s) then removed about 2,200 gallons of red dyed diesel fuel from the tank and fled the area.

SUMMERFIELD
Reported May 10
 11 p.m. — 6600 block of Buttonbush Court. Suspicious circumstances. The complainant stated her husband recently died. She and her newborn baby had gone to Massachusetts to be with family. She left her house keys with family members in Florida to take care of her home while she was gone. However, when she returned to Florida, she noticed pieces of her furniture were missing from inside her home. According to her neighbor, he saw family members with a U-Haul truck on her property. The responding deputy didn’t see any signs of burglary to her home, and dispatch doesn’t have any records of a burglary.

OTHER
May 11
 7:30 a.m. — 2911 53rd Ave. E. (Walmart). Grand theft auto. The responding deputy arrived at Sabal Cove Apartments in reference to a stolen vehicle report. Upon arrival, he spoke with the victim, who only speaks Spanish, the victim’s son and a translator. The vehicle was reportedly parked on the side of Walmart for about three days because it was apparently broken down. After viewing the loss prevention video evidence at Walmart, it appeared as if a man, who apparently had a key to the vehicle, took the vehicle.

11:40 p.m. — The intersection of 33rd Street E. and State Road 70 E. Corruption by threat against public servant. The defendant was observed committing a pedestrian violation. Upon contact with the defendant, he became hostile and threatening. He made numerous threats to the responding deputy and insinuated another deputy would be “dead like the cop in Tampa if we stopped him.” The direct threats were only made at the responding deputy. The defendant was arrested on scene.
