As part of Lakewood Ranch Community Activities’ Memorial Day Salute to Heroes May 29, the community currently is collecting items to send to troops overseas.

Accepted items include jerky; powdered drink mixes; nuts and trail mixes; power bars; crackers; Oreos; sardines and tuna; hot sauce and condiments; vitamins; icy-hot patches; scissors; baggies; duct tape; cushioned insoles; shower shoes; ramen noodles; Chapstick; gum; instant oatmeal; canned pasta and soup; fruit snacks; battery-powered fans; flashlights; batteries (AA and D); CD-Rs; flash drives; phone cards; board games; electronic games and toys; stress balls; sunglasses; flypaper; insect repellants; floss and razors.

Items may be dropped off at the following locations: Lakewood Ranch Community Activties, 6310 Lakewood Ranch Blvd.; Ed’s Tavern, 10719 Rodeo Drive; Florida Bank, 3704 84th Ave. Circle E.; and Manasota Operation Troop Support, 4301 32nd St. W., Suite C-20.
