East County children, their parents and grandparents, made a difference for those in need during Temple Emanu-El’s Mitzvah Day May 1.

The congregation-wide event featured an afternoon of donation drives and hands-on community service projects to benefit local charitable agencies. Projects included wrapping presents for children in Manatee County, collecting and sorting food at a food bank, visiting a nursing home with a team of therapy dogs, crafting bracelets to benefit Manasota BUDS (Bringing Up Down Syndrome), making cards for soldiers serving overseas, and decorating cookies for firefighters.

Rabbi Elaine Rose Glickman chaired the event. Committee members included East County residents Gayle Byerly, Cin Gilburne, Laura Kramer, Kim and Joey Schlosberg, Dubby Uretsky and Rebecca Zion.
