Eleven-year-old Dylan Buck pitched a complete game shutout, leading 436 Underground of Lakewood Ranch to an 8-0 victory over previously undefeated Publix of Buffalo Creek May 19. The Bradenton Christian School fifth-grader struck out a career high 18 batters and only allowed one hit. Here is an inside look at this week’s Athlete of the Week.

How did it feel when you walked off following your complete game?
It felt really good because I had the most strikeouts I’ve ever thrown.

What’s the toughest part about being a pitcher?
Throwing strikes

Would you rather be in the field or at the plate?
In the field — it’s more exciting.

How did you get into baseball?
I started playing when I was 3 years old. I guess I just liked it.

What do you enjoy the most about baseball?
Just the excitement of it

Do you have a favorite team?
The Boston Red Sox. My dad likes them.

Do you have any siblings?
I have a younger sister, Lauren, who is 9 years old.

If you could go anywhere on summer vacation, where would it be and why?
Boston. I’ve never been there.

What’s your favorite food?
Pepperoni pizza

Who is your biggest role model?
Dustin Pedroia. I just like how he plays.

Do you have a favorite subject?
Math. I like working with numbers.

What’s your favorite amusement park ride?
Sheikra at Busch Gardens
