The town has watched in anticipation as assorted cranes and other heavy equipment have hoisted into place the 10 large-scale sculptures that will adorn the Sarasota bayfront through May 15.
This is the sixth season for the biennial exhibition, which represents diverse viewpoints, materials, scale and color. The exhibit, titled “Under Azure Skies,” was curated by sculptor John Henry and brought here from a previous showing in Lucerne, Switzerland.
Sarasota Mayor Suzanne Atwell officially cut the ribbon, opening the show at a champagne reception Friday, Nov. 11. She thanked the Season of Sculpture organization for its massive — literally and figuratively — contribution to Sarasota. Also participating in the ceremony were Henry, Season of Sculpture Board Chairwoman Susan McLeod and Sarasota County Commission Chairwoman Nora Patterson. Sarasota’s unique, 24/7 outdoor museum is now officially open.
