Braden River High junior Fabio Vasconcellos scored five goals while leading the Pirates to an 8-1 victory over Port Charlotte Nov. 15. The Pirates forward has netted 10 goals and an assist through the first four games of the season. Here is an inside look at this week’s Athlete of the Week.
How were you able to be so successful against Port Charlotte?
My teammates. They put me in front of the goal, and I just do my part.
How long have you been playing soccer?
My whole life. My family plays. It’s part of my culture.
What do enjoy the most about soccer?
Just being on the field and playing with everyone.
What’s the toughest part about being a soccer player?
Just pushing yourself in areas that you need to get better and not having your coaches tell you.
Do you know what you want to be when you grow up?
A soccer player.
If you could play another sport for a day, what would it be?
Volleyball. I like playing volleyball.
Do you have any siblings?
I have two brothers: Lucas, 18, and Gabriel, 14.
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
Brazil. I have family there, and you play soccer every day.
Do you have a favorite type of music?
Rap and hip hop. I just like it. It’s my style.
Who is your biggest role model?
My father. He has good morals and is a great example.
If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
To be able to fly. I could fly anywhere and be like a bird.
Do you have a favorite food?
Chocolate.
Are you from Florida originally?
Yes. My parents are from Brazil.
