High winds blow out bonfire

Guests at Freedom Elementary School’s annual bonfire Nov. 18 had a blast despite high winds eliminating the main attraction.

As Principal Jim Mennes greeted students and parents and joined in the nighttime fun, he dubbed this year’s event “The Bonfire That Never Was.”

Even without the blaze, guests enjoyed food, live music and plenty of time with family and friends. And, grill master Shane Keinz, of Full Belly Meats, did provide some flames every time he flipped his burgers.
