Braden River High senior Ryan Fischer stepped in at quarterback in the second half and helped lead the visiting Pirates to a 20-10 victory over Port Charlotte Sept. 30. Fischer scored all three of Braden River’s touchdowns on runs of one, five and seven yards. Here is an inside look at this week’s Athlete of the Week.

What did it mean for your team to get its first win?
It meant a lot, especially (because) we play Manatee this week. Hopefully, it’ll give us a lot of confidence on defense and offense, and we can build on that and give Manatee a good game.

Would you rather start at quarterback or get called in?
I’d rather I get called in and not know — like last week or even two years ago against Manatee or Sarasota, when I didn’t know I was going to play.

Of the positions you play, which is your favorite?
I like slot. I want to go to college and play slot receiver.

What do you enjoy the most about football?
Just coming out and having fun. I love it. You get to run around and show your athleticism and be with all your friends.

Do you prefer playing football or baseball?
Definitely football. It’s more active.

Do you know what you want to be when you grow up?
I want to go into sports medicine and do something in the medical field with orthopedics.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
New York City to see Ground Zero. I was only in second grade, but every time 9/11 comes around I’m interested in learning more.

What was your favorite cartoon show growing up?
“Winnie the Pooh.” It was just one of those shows that I liked watching. I still watch it sometimes if it’s on.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
I want to read people’s minds. I’d want to know what everyone was thinking. It would get annoying real quick, though.

Do you have a favorite food?
Hot wings from Casa-Di-Pizza. Those things are unbelievable.
