Oct. 12
Suspicious sunset-watchers
6:53 p.m. — 5700 block of GMD. Suspicious Persons. A condominium resident told police that she allowed several men to cross to a beach access for residents only. Police found that one of the men works at a nearby convenience store and the other is staying at the condominium on vacation and came out to watch the sunset.

Oct. 13
Soliciting setback
6:24 p.m. — 500 block of De Narvaez Drive. Soliciting. Two men were going door-to-door to advertise their car detailing services. Police warned them that they needed a permit to solicit on the Key.

No need to cause a racket
11:40 p.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Road. Property Found. Police found two tennis rackets in a brown case and turned them in to attendants at the nearby tennis facility. The owner later called police, who told her to pick up the rackets at the facility.

Oct. 14
Pooled effort
6:42 a.m. — 2100 block of GMD. Highway Obstruction. A truck driver’s pool supplies fell out of the bed of his truck. He stopped and tried to clean up the supplies, but a gallon of muriatic acid and an unknown amount of liquid chlorine spilled in the roadway. The man left without reporting the spill. Firefighters hosed off the roadway, which had no visible damage.

Oct. 15
Pushing the speed limit
12:02 a.m. — 1400 block of GMD. Traffic Violation. Police stopped a driver who was traveling at speeds of more than 70 mph. The driver told police that he had just finished work in Sarasota and was on his way to pick up his wife from a Key condominium. The driver had a business-purpose-only driver’s license but thought that picking up his wife counted as business. Police drove the man to the condominium and released the vehicle to his wife.

Damage control
5:22 p.m. — 1600 block of GMD. Property Damage. The longtime owner of a closed resort reported vehicle damage that occurred either at the resort or in Sarasota. The vehicle appeared to have been keyed.

Please do stop the music
10:09 p.m. — 5800 block of GMD. Noise Complaint. A resident told police at 9:15 p.m. that the live band at his home would be shutting down by 10 p.m. When the band was still playing at 10:09 p.m., police told him that he would receive a citation if he didn’t stop the music. The man complied.

Oct. 17
Planted evidence?
2:24 a.m. — 5200 block of GMD. Narcotics Violation. Police pulled over a woman whom they warned a few minutes earlier not to drive because of a suspended license. The woman said she was only driving to Coquina Beach so that her sister could pick her up and that she didn’t know why her vehicle had an improper tag, because her mother took care of it. She also suspected that her ex-boyfriend put the marijuana bag and glass pipe in her purse.

Safe return
12:35 a.m. — 4200 block of GMD. Public Service. A woman reported that she woke up and found that her husband, who is easily confused and no longer drives, and car were gone. The woman’s husband returned while police were on scene and was unsure of where he had been or why he had been there.

Early bird
1:25 a.m. — 4900 block of GMD. Public Service. An 82-year-old driver who appeared disoriented allowed police to use his cell phone to call his son, who told police that his father has no pressing medical conditions but is usually in bed by 6 p.m.
