Interior designers Holly Dennis and Carmen Christensen were two of eight local interior designers who opened their homes to the public Saturday, Oct. 22, and Sunday, Oct. 23 as part of the Florida West Coast Chapter of ASID’s “Designer Digs” event to benefit Habitat for Humanity.

Dennis has been a professional interior designer since 2002 and has lived in Sarasota since 2004. Her home was built in 1956, and when she moved in, she was determined to keep the house true to its mid-century modern look by restoring the terrazzo floors, furnishing the house with vintage furniture and keeping the original turquoise GE oven in the kitchen. Dennis says she likes that her home is a “little time capsule.”
Christensen now has her dream kitchen — thanks to an incentive to finish it after signing on to participate in the ASID “Designer Digs” tour. Christensen graduated from Ringling College of Art and Design in 1989 and took a job working in cabinetry. Her new kitchen is her favorite part of her house. The kitchen includes mahogany cabinets, a solid walnut island and crema marfil marble countertops. Her sink includes a Brizo touch technology faucet, and the main light over the island was designed by one of her favorite lighting designers, George Kovacs.
