+ HOP Martial Arts fighter wins state lightweight title
Sixteen-year-old Dalton Jenkins, who trains at House of Pain Martial Arts, captured the Junior Florida State Lightweight title Aug. 27. 

Jenkins and his competitor went five rounds before Jenkins won by a unanimous decision in the final round, which included two minutes of nonstop punches and kicks.

+ Mustangs open season with win
The Lakewood Ranch boys golf “black” team shot 145 to defeat St. Petersburg High (152), Braden River (161) and Charlotte (174) Aug. 31.

Ramsey Touchberry shot 35 to lead the way for the Mustangs followed by Danny Walker (36), Dylan Hogan (36) and Connor Baldwin (38).

Andre Hammett shot 38 to lead the way for the Pirates followed by Austin Achelon (39), Tony Osbourne (40), Max Everett (44) and Tyler Coleman (44).

Lakewood’s “green” team shot 167, topping Southeast (208) and Pametto (248). Team medalist Spence Schultz led the way.

On Sept. 3, the Mustangs shot 291 to win the Olympia Titan Invitational at Hammock Beach Resort.
Kyle Benson and Touchberry each shot 71 to earn individual co-championships. Baldwin shot 74 and Hogan shot 75.

+ Lady Mustangs dominate Canes Classic
Lakewood Ranch High junior Olivia Ortiz finished first overall at the 19th Annual Canes Classic 5K Sept. 5 at G.T. Bray Park.

Ortiz crossed the finish line in 18 minutes, 49.27 seconds to finish first in all ages in the female division. Teammates Kristin Zarrella (19:13.43), Devin McDermott (19:20.71), Ashley Platt (22:00.84) and Michelle Last also placed in the top five, finishing second, third, fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 16-19-year-old girls division.

Natalie Novak and Emily Perez didn’t compete in the race.
