The Sarasota County Commission will hold public hearings Monday, Sept. 12, on tax assessments and the fiscal year 2012 budget during a special meeting from 7 to 9 p.m. in the commission chamber at the Sarasota County Administration Center, 1660 Ringling Blvd.

Among the public hearings will be those on the total fiscal year 2012 millage rate and the stormwater improvement and the fire and rescue district assessments. Members of the public will be limited to three minutes each in their comments.

The County Commission July 13 tentatively approved no change in the general fund millage rate from fiscal year 2011 to fiscal year 2012. That rate is 3.0607 mills. Including the debt service and mosquito millage rates, the total millage rate is also unchanged at 3.3384 mills.

The total tentative budget for FY 2012 is $860,474,628.

The Sarasota County Property Appraiser Office had certified the taxable value for Sarasota County property as of July 1 at $39.6 billion, down from $42.1 billion in the previous year.
