For the second week in a row, Braden River found itself on the outside looking in following a 7-6 loss to North Port Sept. 9.

Trailing 7-0, the Pirates recovered a fumble midway through the third quarter. Eric Schappacher, who replaced injured quarterback Steven Ross, led Braden River on a drive, which spanned the remainder of the third quarter.

Deon Taylor punched the ball in from a yard out to pull the Pirates within a point. Although a mishandled snap on Michael Unzicher’s extra point attempt left the Pirates trailing 7-6.

Braden River had a chance to take the lead late in the fourth quarter, but Unzicher’s 35-yard field goal attempt went wide left.

Braden River returns to action at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 16 when the Pirates host Palmetto, who defeated Sarasota 35-14 last week to remain perfect.
