Tara couple celebrates 50 years

Tara residents Jack and Barbara Herbert celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sept. 10.

The couple was married in 1961 at Saint Agnes Catholic Church in Catonsville, Md. Jack earned his master’s degree from The George Washington University and spent much of his career at Westinghouse in Baltimore and also taught accounting at Catonsville Community College and the University of Maryland. Barbara worked as a medical secretary at the University of Maryland.

Today, Jack continues to serve in education as a substitute teacher at Lakewood Ranch High School.

The Herberts have two children, Kelly Gardner, of Charlotte, N.C., and Jeffrey Herbert, of Bradenton; and two grandchildren, Ryan Gardner and Will Gardner, both of Charlotte.
