Lakewood Ranch freshman Chad Rex threw three touchdowns and rushed for another to help lead the East Manatee Bulldogs Red Panther team to a 32-0 victory over the Seminoles in its season opener March 24. The 14-year-old also intercepted a pass. Here is an inside look at this week’s Athlete of the Week.

What does it mean to you to be able to help your team in such a positive way?
It’s good for them, because it gets their name around. When I make plays, I don’t do it for myself. I do it for the team.

How long have you been playing football?
Six years. My whole family has been involved in sports, and I wanted to be kind of like my dad. He played football throughout his life, and it was his main sport, so I decided to go into it.

Of the different positions that you play, which is your favorite?
Quarterback. That’s the person that makes everything happen.

What do you enjoy the most about football?
When you are losing and you have that last drive to win it all. I like when the pressure is on.

Do you play any other sports?
Basketball

Do you know what you want to be when you grow up?
A personal trainer

What was your favorite cartoon show growing up?
“Tom and Jerry.” It made me laugh all the time.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
To go back in time. I could change all of the mistakes I’ve ever made and relive the good moments.

Who is your biggest role model?
My dad and Tom Brady. My dad, because every time I look at him, he’s always teaching me stuff, and everything he does just looks right. Tom Brady is just my favorite football player, and he’s a good person.

Who is your favorite sports team?
The New England Patriots. The first game I ever watched was the Super Bowl when the Patriots (beat) the Carolina Panthers.

What’s your favorite food?
Pasta

Do you have any siblings?
I have a brother, Aaron, who is 20 years old.
