Cops Corner: Sarasota

July 21
CAN’T BOUNCE
1:40 a.m. — 30 block of Lemon Avenue. Criminal Mischief. A bar bouncer told police someone slashed his truck tire while he was on duty. He said the tire in question was hissing, and when an officer investigated, it was flat. Police did not see the slash mark.

WINDOW TO HER HEART
10 a.m. — 1800 block of 23rd Street. Criminal Mischief. A woman who had an argument with her boyfriend told police she found her front window shattered after he left on a bicycle. She did not want to press charges.

SNEAKY CYCLIST
1 p.m. — intersection of Tuttle Avenue and Eighth Street. Strong-armed Robbery. A man on a bicycle snatched a woman’s wallet from her hand while she waited for the bus. She reported the incident to police 45 minutes later, after walking several blocks to “cool” down.

July 24
JUST CHILLIN’
7 a.m. — 2100 block of Magnolia Street. Trespassing. A woman, who was pet sitting for her niece, arrived for her daily duty and found her neighbor sitting on the couch. He explained that his air conditioning was broken so he went inside to cool down. Police were unable to contact the man but plan to issue a trespassing warning.

SWEET FREEDOM
12:30 p.m. — 1000 block of Tamiami Trail. Suspicious Person. Police tracked down a man suspected of harassing customers in front of a grocery store while he was walking a bicycle on a nearby sidewalk. When he spotted an officer, the man dropped the bicycle and began talking to himself. The officer advised him not to return to the grocery store and that he was free to leave.

RUDE DUDE
12:32 p.m. — 3800 block of Tamiami Trail. Dispute. A woman called police after nearly walking into a jagged object that was jutting out of a truck in a restaurant parking lot. She told officers the vehicle’s owner was rude to her and used foul language when she told him to put a warning flag on the object.

July 25
ALL SIGNS POINT TO THEFT
5:30 p.m. — 2800 block of Riverside Drive. Petit Theft. A construction worker called police when he noticed a large road-closed sign was missing from his work site. He told responding officers he did not notice anyone acting suspiciously during the day and wanted a report filed for his boss.

July 26
OH, BEHAVE
6:45 p.m. — 1400 block of Main Street. Dispute. A man described as “drunk and belligerent” refused to exit a cab after the driver attempted to kick him out. When police responded, the man explained he was confrontational by nature and apologized. The driver said he would take the man home if he behaved himself.
