Sarasota County commissioners, during an Aug. 20 budget workshop, will discuss a plan to permanently fix a stretch of Beach Road, which is collapsing after years of erosion damage, according to Sarasota County Public Works Director Jim Harriott.

It could cost between $800,000 and $1 million to fix the damaged asphalt near Beach Access 3, said Sarasota County Mobility Infrastructure Manager Gary Spraggins. Commissioners would have to approve funding, and next year could decide on whether to vacate part of the road residents.

A temporary solution calls for a mixture of asphalt and concrete to fill some of the holes, on Beach Road, Spraggins said, but the Florida Department of Environmental Protection hasn’t approved a permit for the work.
