+ Sheriff’s Office lends staff for RNC security
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has provided 70 staff members to assist other local police agencies during the Republican National Convention in Tampa, according to Sheriff’s Office Community Affairs Manager Wendy Rose.
Mounted patrol officers, complete with vision shields for their horses, special weapons and tactics units, emergency-response team members and bomb-unit deputies are among those that the sheriff’s office sent to Tampa. Any costs incurred will be reimbursed by the RNC, Rose said.
The agency began planning for the staffing level changes last year, so the local enforcement will be unaffected.
+ Siesta Key Village radio ads continue
Another round of radio advertisements for Siesta Key Village hit the airwaves this week, as part of the Siesta Key Village Association’s marketing effort that began earlier this summer.
The advertisements, which carry the jingle “Siesta Key, always a good time to visit,” will air between 5:30 a.m. and 11:14 p.m. Aug. 29 through Sept. 2, with rates ranging from $3 to $45 for 30-second time slots. The ads will cost a total of $656, according to a client spot-time report provided by SKVA President Russell Matthes.
The organization had $46,300 available in two bank accounts as of its Aug. 7 monthly meeting.
