+ Cougars tame Pirates
The Cardinal Mooney High boys basketball team remained unbeaten with a 67-50 victory over previously unbeaten Braden River Dec. 10.
Antonio Blakeney had 28 points, 10 rebounds and three steals to lead the way for the Cougars. Ryan McMahon had 10 points. Justin Najmy had eight assists and Parker Del Medico added seven points and six steals.
+ Riverview Rams edge by Manatee Hurricanes
John Taylor scored the lone goal of the game to lead the Riverview High boys soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Manatee Dec. 10.
Goalkeeper Sam Morrison notched his fifth shutout of the season as the Rams improved to 8-0.
+ Lady Blazers top Lady Panthers
The Sarasota Christian School girls soccer team defeated Bradenton Christian 3-1 Dec. 10.
Shae Benassi, Danielle Bunzik and Caris Miller all scored goals for the Lady Blazers. Goalkeeper Becca Brigham had five saves.
+ Sarasota Christian rallies past Cardinal Mooney
The Sarasota Christian girls basketball team defeated Cardinal Mooney 57-42 Dec. 10.
Jamie Weaver scored 16 points and MacKenzie Lantz added 10 points.
Camille Giardina finished with 24 points, 12 rebounds and 11 steals to lead the way for Cardinal Mooney. Bridget Walsh added 11 points.
+ Four Sailors place at Graves Tournament
Four Sarasota High wrestlers finished in the top seven at the Graves Tournament this past weekend in Brandon.
Junior heavy weight Tobias Baker kept his undefeated streak alive, finishing 9-0 and claiming his third-consecutive tournament title. Senior Austin Hobson finished third at 220 pounds. Sophomore DeAndre Butler and freshman Jarred Hardinger both finished seventh in their respective weight classes.
+ Cougars power past Panthers in district action
Antonio Blakeney scored a game-high 35 points, hauled in six rebounds and had four steals as the Cardinal Mooney High boys basketball team defeated Bradenton Christian 83-38 in Class 3A-District 10 action Dec. 8.
Parker Delmedico recorded 10 assists and four steals. Matt Hueston scored 12 points and had nine rebounds. Jamie Glasser and Ryan McMahon scored 11 points each and Justin Najmy scored eight points.
+ Cardinal Mooney tops Bradenton Christian
The Cardinal Mooney High girls basketball team defeated Bradenton Christian 58-48 in a Class 3A-District 10 game Dec. 8.
Camille Giardina scored 34 points to lead the way for the Lady Cougars. She also had seven rebounds, five steals and three assists. Bridget Ross added 17 points for the Lady Cougars.
+ Upcoming Holiday Baseball Clinic
Extra Innings Sarasota will host its third annual Holiday Baseball Clinic Dec. 26 to Dec. 28 and Dec. 31 to Jan 4.
The clinic will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the facility, located at 717 Cattlemen Road, Sarasota.
Current and former local professional baseball players Jason Miller, Troy Mattes, Joe Terdoslavich, Scooter Gennett and James Houser will help run the clinic.
