Sarasota County commissioners directed staff to review and update building fees almost 23 months ago, but a calculation error could force the delay of a January public hearing to consider new road impact fee rates.

Sarasota County Transportation Director Clarke Davis presented the rates to commissioners Dec. 4, but 12 days later, discovered an error in the spreadsheet used to calculate the fees, according to an email from Davis to County Administrator Randall Reid.

“Correcting this error reduces the internal credit and increases impact fee rates,” Davis said in the email.

Davis requested using the Jan. 16 public hearing to extend a temporary reduction of impact fees to the summer to prepare a new technical report.
