The Lakewood Ranch High girls basketball team saw its season come to an end with a 58-40 loss to Palmetto in the Class 6A-District 12 semifinals Feb. 1.
The No. 4 seed Lady Mustangs kept the game close for most of the first half. Lakewood pulled within a point to open the second quarter, but the No. 1 seed Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Mustangs 19-11 down the stretch to take a 33-24 lead into the locker room.
Lakewood scored the first bucket of the third quarter; but a plethora of turnovers proved to be the difference as the Lady Tigers pulled away in the fourth quarter on a 12-0 run in the first two-and-one-half minutes.
Gabby Diaz-Granados and Emily Bulfin both finished with 14 points to lead the way for Lakewood.
