Jan. 22
Speeding ticket
10:54 p.m. — 1000 block of GMD. 
Reckless Driving. Police received a call about a driver reported to be tailgating, speeding and passing in a no-pass zone and conducted a traffic stop after clocking the driver at 55 mph in a 45 mph zone. The driver admitted to passing another vehicle that he thought was going too slowly and received a speeding ticket.

Jan. 23
Crash report
8:45 a.m. — 1100 block of GMD. 
Traffic Accident. A gate guard said that he saw a vehicle pull onto the street in front of an oncoming dump truck pulling a trailer and thought a crash occurred. He saw both drivers talking to each other and then leave the area. Police received no additional information.

On the loose
10:45 p.m. — 6900 block of GMD. Property Damage. A man told police that two dogs darted into the path of his car, and he was unable to avoid striking one of them. The owner of the pet told the driver that the dog had pulled loose from its leash; the owner took the dog from the scene. The driver had minor damage to his vehicle and did not know the condition of the dog.

Jan. 25
Guarded gate
5:35 p.m. — 500 block of Harbourside Drive.
Disturbance. A security guard told police that a man who could not get behind the property’s gates because his security card was invalid began screaming at the guard and climbed halfway out of his car’s window screaming that the guard let him inside. The man’s father, a resident, showed up and demanded that the guard let his son inside. Earlier that week the man was denied access because he was trying to enter the property in a work vehicle after 5 p.m. Police advised the father to tell his son not to scream at the guard.

Jan. 26
Slipping by
10:25 a.m. — 2600 block of Harbourside Drive.
Trespassing. A man reported that a yacht had been docked at his slip for more than a month, but he never received payment from the owner. The owner of the boat said that he planned to pay the slip owner. The slip owner refused payment and wanted the boat removed, instead. Police later arrested the boat owner on a probation violation warrant in Sarasota County.

Sale mail
12:26 p.m. — 700 block of Hideaway Bay Drive. Suspicious Circumstance. The caretaker of a home that is for sale told police that a person looked at the residence and is now having mail delivered there.

Catch my drift?
1:55 p.m. — 700 block of Broadway. Unsecured Boat. A boat broke anchor and drifted into a boat slip at a restaurant. Dispatch found that the boat owner’s phone number was disconnected. Police told the restaurant manager that he could have the boat towed at the owner’s expense.

Jan. 27
Late for driver’s ed?
9:39 a.m. — Off the Key.
Reckless Driving. Police received a radio call about a car entering Longboat Key that had passed several vehicles illegally. The driver told police that she was in a hurry toget to a class and received a citation.

Dead seabird
4:20 p.m. — 4600 block of GMD. Animal Rescue. Police disposed of a dead seabird.

Jan. 28
Making his bark
10:52 p.m. — 700 block of St. Judes Drive North
. Dog Nuisance. A man told police that his neighbor’s dog had been barking since 2 p.m. and that the dog’s barking has been an ongoing problem. Police went to the neighbor’s home and saw several cars in the driveway and a barking pitbull roaming freely inside the home but were unable to locate the residents.

Jan. 29
Sidewalk suggestion
4:40 a.m. — 4200 block of GMD.
Public Service. Police saw a woman wearing a reflective vest jogging in the bicycle lane about whom other officers have voiced concerns. Police asked the woman to use the sidewalk for jogging because of safety concerns. The woman said that there is not always a sidewalk to jog on and that she would use the sidewalk when possible.

Jan. 30
Support system
8:10 a.m. — 500 block of Harbourside Drive. 
Traffic Violation. Police checked the tag of a vehicle and found that the owner’s license was suspended for support delinquency. The man told police he wasn’t notified of the suspension when he filed paperwork to take care of the support issue. The man was arrested and received a citation to appear in Sarasota County court.
