Pirates cruise to playoff berth

The top-seeded Braden River High boys basketball team cruised to a 62-40 victory over fifth-seeded Charlotte in a Class 7A-District 11 semifinal tonight.
Braden River controlled the perimeter, sinking eight three-pointers — seven of which came in the first half.
Senior guard Tre Bryant finished with a team-high 23 points, including four three-pointers. Junior forward Trevon Young added 13 points and senior forward Tommy Bernhardt finished with 12 points.
With the win, the Pirates will play host to the winner of the other semifinal between Venice and Sarasota in the district championship Feb. 10. Braden River also secured a spot in the regional tournament, which begins Feb. 14.
