Athlete of the Week: Tre Bryant

Braden River High senior guard Tre Bryant scored 43 points in two games last week, including 20 points in the Feb. 10 Class 7A-District 11 championship versus Venice. His play helped lead the Pirates to their second consecutive district championship. Here is an inside look at this week’s Athlete of the Week.

What does it mean to you to be able to contribute to your team in such a positive way?
It means a lot. Even if I’m not scoring, I’m going to be distributing the ball, getting open or stealing the ball on defense. I just try and put some excitement into to keep us in the game.

How long have you been playing basketball?
I started playing when I was 4 years old. It’s kind of a family thing.

What do you enjoy the most about basketball?
It’s just fun. The whole game is fun.

What’s the toughest part about being a guard?
The fact that you have to stay two to three steps ahead of everything going on in the game.

Who is your biggest role model?
My father. I probably wouldn’t be playing basketball if it weren’t for him.

Do you have any siblings?
I have two older sisters, Kristina and Nina, and a younger brother, Tariek.

If you could have one super power, what would it be?
To be a mind-reader. I think it would be funny. I could pick on a lot of people, because I would know what they were thinking.

What was your favorite cartoon show growing up?
“Dragon Ball Z.” There was a lot of action.

Do you have a favorite subject?
Science. It’s just enlightening. It helps you understand and learn a lot of different things. It’s really fascinating.

If you could play another sport for a day, what would it be?
Football. I used to play it.

Do you have a favorite sports team?
The Chicago Bulls. They have so much history with Michael Jordan, and now, we have Derrick Rose.
