Lady Mustangs top Hurricanes and Indians

The Lakewood Ranch High softball team defeated Manatee 9-3 Feb. 14

Senior Huntyre Elling allowed one run on four hits while striking out six and walking five to earn the win for the Lady Mustangs.

Junior Katie Hopkins went 3-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored and senior Dana Hutchins went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored to lead the way for Lakewood at the plate. Junior Jenn Trotter went 1-for-3 with a RBI and a run scored. Senior Kailee Sharp went 1-for-2 with a RBI. Junior Shea Fisher went 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Senior Quillan Toler went 1-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored. Junior Taylor Newton went 1-for-4 with a run scored.

The Lady Mustangs followed up their win with an 8-2 victory over Venice Feb. 16.

Freshman Amanda Rak and junior Amber Wimmer combined for the win. Rak pitched five innings, allowing one run on two hits while striking out seven. Wimmer pitched two innings, allowing one run on one hit while striking out two and walking three.

Wimmer also went 3-for-4 at the plate with a home run, a double, four RBIs and two runs scored to help lead the way for Lakewood at the plate. Hutchins went 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored and Newton went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, a RBI and a run scored. Trotter went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored and Hopkins went 2-for-3 with a RBI and a run scored.
