+ Lakewood Little Leaguer hits for the cycle
Nine-year-old Parker Venuto etched his name into the record books Nov. 11, when he hit for the cycle for the first time in his young career.
The Lakewood Ranch Little Leaguer, who recently finished playing machine pitch for team Dynamite, hit a single, double, triple and a home run in the game. Parker finished with three home runs on the season.

The Lakewood Ranch High boys soccer team tied Port Charlotte 2-2 Jan. 4.
Jason Ferguson scored both goals to lead the way for the Mustangs.
+ Storm 98 softball team wins Snowball Classic
The Suncoast Storm 98 softball team went 7-0 to win the USSSA Snowball Classic Dec. 17-18 in Pembroke Pines.
The team, which played up in the 15U division, went 3-0 in pool play to earn the No. 1 seed. The Storm outscored its opponents 53-7, posting an 8-0 shutout in the championship game. It was the team’s fifth tournament championship of the year.
Caitlin Brown, Crystal Brown, Logan Newton, Bethany Keen, Denali Schappacher, Kylie Toler and Kaylee Misiti led the way offensively for the Storm. Newton and Madison Wallwork went undefeated on the mound.
+ Lady Pirates top Lady Tarpons in OT
Madison Jaco scored 20 points, including the winning bucket to lead Braden River to a 38-37 overtime victory over Charlotte Jan. 4.
Chianti Mitchell added 13 rebounds and four steals and Jessica Ogline added nine points.
+ Lakewood Little League registration upcoming
Lakewood Ranch Little League will hold registration for its upcoming spring season from 6-8 p.m. Jan. 13, and 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Jan. 14, at the Lakewood Ranch Ballpark.
Minors and Majors tryouts are scheduled for Jan. 14.
Registration is open to all children ages 4-15 and ranges from $75 to $175, depending on the division. Those interested in registering their child should bring the player’s birth certificate, proof of residency and cash or check. For more, visit www.lwrbaseball.com.
+ Lady Mustangs blank Lady Pirates
The Lakewood Ranch High girls soccer team improved to 10-3-1 and 9-2 in district play with a 2-0 victory over Port Charlotte Jan. 4.
Tyler Gordon scored a goal and had an assist, and Morgan Salmon added a goal to lead the way for the Lady Mustangs. Brianna Red also added an assist.
