About Last Night …
I’ve heard of wedding crashers and party crashers, but black tie crashers? That’s a new one!
Only two weeks into this position and already I’ve realized the black tie crowd really digs crashing parties. If you read my most recent Black Tie and Tales column, you’d know that two guests of the Perlman and Pearls gala were jokingly plotting to crash Bea Friedman’s birthday party.
At this past weekend’s Sunshine From Darkness Gala, at the Ritz-Carlton, Sarasota, I made what I hope was a mostly silent exit to powder my nose because I started coughing at the end of 2012 Luminary Award honoree Patrick Kennedy’s speech.
Upon my return to the ballroom, I waited outside the doors for a good moment to slip back in. Three women standing in the hallway — two wearing jeans and sneakers — must have thought I was just eavesdropping and not attending the event, because the woman who happened to be in the dressier attire started telling them to come on inside. When they pointed to their sneakers, she told them to just take off their shoes.
See photos from the event here and in the Jan. 19 edition of Diversions.
