Cops Corner: East County

The following information was gathered from incident and arrest reports obtained from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

June 20
Go to your room
2:03 a.m. — 3800 block of 39th Street E. Found Property. The responding deputy observed two males in the area who advised him they couldn’t sleep and went out for a walk. Because one of the subjects was only 16 years old and it was after 2 a.m., the deputy had dispatch contact his parents and advise them of his whereabouts. His father responded to pick him up. While in the company of the subject’s father, the deputy asked if there was anything on them he needed to know about. At that time, one of the subjects produced a pipe and the other produced a small amount of marijuana. The first subject was released to his father. Dispatch wasn’t able to contact the second subject’s parents via phone but took him home and spoke to his father. Both parents were upset and didn’t know the boys had left their homes.

June 21
A-van-doned
8:05 a.m. — 2900 block of 53rd Ave. E. Abandoned Auto. The sheriff’s office received a complaint for an abandoned van in the inside lane of State Road 70. A white male adult and juvenile were last seen running from the vehicle across State Road 70 toward Walmart. The responding deputy checked the vehicle, which wasn’t locked. The turn-signal indicator was broken, but the steering column and ignition were still intact. The tag on the vehicle didn’t return a specific vehicle. The deputy contacted the owner of the tag, who advised the deputy he had sold the vehicle to his friend, and she was supposed to have the vehicle transferred over in her name. The tag owner advised he was driving south on Interstate 75 and couldn’t respond, but wanted the next rotation wrecker to come tow the vehicle from the road. Advanced Towing towed the vehicle from State Road 70. It is unknown who was driving the van and why they left it unattended.

June 24
Little information
10:30 a.m. — 3500 block of 65th Avenue Circle E. Vehicle Burglary. Unknown person(s) entered the victim’s vehicle, which was mistakenly left unlocked. The person(s) rummaged through the vehicle and stole several items. The person(s) then fled in an unknown direction.

June 25
Surprise passing
5:26 a.m. — 9200 block of 66th Avenue Drive E. Death Investigation. According to the complainant, she woke up and came into the kitchen where she found her significant other of more than 30 years sitting at the kitchen table unresponsive. She thought he was asleep, so she tried to wake him up, but he was unresponsive. The complainant then called 911. EMS arrived and performed CPR but was not successful. The complainant stated the death wasn’t expected, but she knew he was sick.

Long-distance lookout
11:25 p.m. — 7000 block of Treymore Court. Baker Act. The complainant called from Illinois in reference to a disturbing text message he received from his friend in Sarasota. A deputy responded and spoke with the subject, and it was determined a Baker Act needed to be completed. The subject was taken to Manatee Glens.

Fake Tax Act
2:20 p.m. — 3700 block of 82nd Avenue Circle E. Fraudulent Use or Possession of Another’s ID Without Consent. Unknown person(s) obtained the victim’s Social Security number by unknown means and used it to file a fraudulent tax return. The IRS requested the victim file a police report.
