The Venice Theatre is seeking sweet transvestites from transsexual Transylvania --- or at least actors who like to dress up and play the part --- to audition for roles in the upcoming fall production of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, running from October 12 through November 3.

Auditions for all roles in the musical will take place on Sunday, July 22 and Monday, July 23 at 7:30 pm at the Venice Theatre, located at 140 West Tampa Avenue on Venice Island.

Actors, be prepared to flash your ID when you show up to the auditions. Due to the racy nature of the script and because the run will include those witching-hour midnight performances for which The Rocky Horror Picture Show is famous, the theatre will only consider actors ages 18 and over.

Those interested in auditioning for a role in The Rocky Horror Picture Show should prepare a song and provide sheet music for the theatre-provided accompanist. The theatre requests that auditioning actors do not audition using CDs, MP3s or other recorded media.

Brad Wages, who starred as everyone’s favorite saucy and sexually-ambiguous alien, Dr. Frank-N-Furter, in previous productions of The Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Venice Theatre, steps down from the stage to join director Allan Kollar behind the scenes as the show’s choreographer ---- and he leaves big shoes to fill.

“We’ll be looking for a very strong actor and singer to take Brad’s place,” said marketing director Laurie Colton. “It’s a big role that requires a big personality.”

A complete list of roles up for grabs during the Sunday and Monday auditions reads as follows:

Dr. Frank-N-Furter: The flamboyant mad scientist and leader of the aliens from the planet Transexual in the distant galaxy of Transylvania. The role requires a very strong singer, dancer and actor.

Brad Majors: (Male 20-40s) The heroic and dependable, although perhaps somewhat square, fiancée of Janet Weiss. The role requires a strong singer and actor with some dancing ability.

Janet Weiss: (Female 20-40s) The heroine and fiancée of Brad Majors. Janet is just a small-town girl caught up in the insanity of Dr. Frank-N-Furter. The role requires a strong singer and actor with some dancing ability.

Riff Raff: (Male 20-40s) Dr. Frank-N-Furter’s loyal and faithful handyman and brother to Magenta. The role requires a strong singer, actor and dancer.

Magenta: (Female 20-40s) Sister to Riff Raff and domestic servant to Dr. Frank-N-Furter. The role requires a strong singer, actor and dancer.

Trixie: (Female 20-40s) Mysterious character who opens and closes the show. The role may be doubled with Magenta and requires a strong singer, dancer and actor.

Columbia: (Female 20-40s) The only human member of Dr. Frank-N-Furter’s entourage, torn between her two loves for Eddie and Dr. Frank-N-Furter. The role requires a strong singer, actor and dancer with the ability to tap dance.

Dr. Everett Scott: (Male 30-60s) A rival scientist to Dr. Frank-N-Furter. The role may be doubled with Eddie and requires a strong singer, actor and dancer.

Rocky Horror: (Male 20-30s) Dr. Frank-N-Furter’s latest creation, made to serve as eye candy and to relieve Frank’s tension. The role requires a strong singer with a fit and muscular body type.

Eddie: (Male 20-40s) Ex-delivery boy. The role may be doubled with Dr. Scott and requires a strong singer and dancer.

The Criminologist: (Male 40-60s) Serves as narrator for the show. The role requires an actor with strong improvisation skills.

Transylvanians: (Male/female all ages 18+ and all types) Requires singing and dancing ability.
