This mask, from the Democratic Republic of Congo, is worn by royal dignitaries during initiation and funeral ceremonies. The curved portion on the top of the mask represents an elephant trunk, which is a sign of kingly power.

This oil painting was done in the late 1800s and is a favorite of vendor Joyce Jergens.
