Cops Corner: East County

The following information was gathered from incident and arrest reports obtained from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

MAY 22
ADULT MATTERS
4:35 p.m. — 4500 block of Captiva Lane. Suspicious Incident. The complainant reported that an unknown white male approached her daughter, a minor, and her friend at the community pool. The unknown male asked if she had ever been in an adult film. The man was adamant about having her be in pornography with her friend. Both minors declined and exited the pool. Before the complainant’s daughter left the pool, the man provided her with an unknown website. No additional information was provided. The girl was advised to contact law enforcement if she sees the man in the future.

MAY 25
CASH WASH
9:23 a.m. — 7305 52nd Place E. (BP Gas Station). Theft $300 to $5,000. The suspect was captured on video issuing refunds for car washes on the register when there wasn’t a customer in the store or in the car wash. He kept track of the total refunds and then removed the cash from the safe-drop box before completing the transactions.

BIRTHDAY WISHES
11:21 p.m. — 4700 block of 26th Ave. E. Threat to Do Violence. The victim said her neighbor is constantly threatening her. On May 25, he yelled at her about her dog being too close to his fence. The dog was on the victim’s property, but the neighbor felt that was too close to his fence. He started yelling at the dog, and the victim went to retrieve the animal. He then started yelling at her and telling her he was going to “kick her (expletive)” and “kill her dogs.” Next, he picked up a trash bin and attempted to throw it at the victim, who is seven months pregnant. The bin bounced off the fence and hit the man in the face. The responding deputy advised the victim and the suspect they should seek mediation through the courts to settle their feud. The suspect denied that he did anything to the victim and said he was peaceful because it was his birthday.
 

MAY 29
THIS ONE IS IN THE BAG
12:15 p.m. — 6225 State Road 64 E. (Walmart). Petit Retail Theft. The suspect entered the store and selected numerous groceries and placed them in a shopping cart. He then took the items to the infant section of the store where he concealed the merchandise into Walmart plastic bags. The suspect then exited the store, passing all points of purchase without paying or attempting to pay for the items. A loss-prevention officer, who was conducting visual surveillance on the suspect, detained him. The suspect was cooperative and was escorted to the Walmart security office. The total amount of the merchandise was $134.03. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Manatee County Jail.

ACCOUNT HACKER
5:20 p.m. — 6100 block of Cypress Circle. Identity Theft. The victim reported an unknown suspect illegally obtained her checking account number and fraudulently stole money from her account. The suspect stole $119.34 from her checking account. The victim said she didn’t give anyone permission to take money from her checking account.

SWIMMING TRUCK
7:30 p.m. — 37800 block of Boyd Road. Trespass Warning. The complainant issued a trespass warning on her estranged daughter-in-law after continued family problems. The suspect doesn’t live on the property, but arrived May 29 and drove off in her estranged husband’s truck. The truck was later pulled out of the Myakka River in Crane Park.
