+ School Board gets new name
Members of the Sarasota County School Board will now be referred to as the Governing Board of the Sarasota County School District following the June 19, monthly work session.

When the board moved into the conference room for advisement from Superintendent Lori White, Carolyn Todd, representing District 1, proposed the change. She got the idea for the name change after hearing school board members introduced with the moniker at a graduation ceremony in a different county.

“It gave me a tingle,” she said.

The board will also meet for a retreat in September to re-evaluate its place in the community, but the exact date has not been set.
