Seven members of the Sarasota YMCA Sharks will head Friday to Omaha, Neb., to compete in the U.S. Summer Olympic Swim Trials, which will take place from June 25 to July 2. Swimmers will compete for a spot on the U.S. Olympic swim team, which will consist of 26 men and women. The Summer Olympic Games will take place July 27 to Aug. 12, in London.

The Sharks swimmers qualified for the trials earlier this month at the annual Gator Swim Club Summer Invitational meet at the University of Florida.

The qualifying swimmers include Danielle Valley, Taylor Katz, Kate Woolbright, Alex Katz, Derek Pridemore, Ashlee Linn and Nicholas Caldwell.

“I just don’t know of any teenage athletes who work as consistently hard and for as many hours as these swimmers do,” said coach Steve Brown. “They are truly a rare breed.”
