Sarasota pole vaulter Lacy Janson cleared 14 feet, 9 inches to capture the final spot on the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team June 24.

The 2001 Cardinal Mooney High graduate cleared the mark without a miss to edge past Mary Saxer at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. — the site of this year’s U.S. Olympic Trials.

This will be Janson’s first trip to the Olympic Games after finishing 10th in 2008. Janson, who was the 2001 high school champion in the pole vault and won the Pan American Junior Championships that year, will make her Olympic debut in the women’s pole vault qualifier Aug. 4 with the final scheduled for Aug. 6.

For a complete story on Lacy Janson’s road to the Olympics pick up the July 5 issue of the East County Observer.
