At the March 10 New College of Florida Board of Trustees Meeting, it was announced that Donal O’Shea was selected by the Presidential Search Committee to become the new President. Upon the confirmation by the Florida Board of Governors, he will become the fifth President of New College.

O’Shea met all of the criteria the 16-member Search Committee outlined when the search began 10-months ago. Headed by Search Committee Chairman Robert M. Johnson, the committee selected O’Shea from a pool of 29-candidates.

“Of all of the candidates that came here, Donal O’Shea was the heart and soul of New College,” says Johnson. Many of the board members that helped with the search pointed to his ability to genuinely engage in conversation and called O’Shea a visionary.

O’Shea could not be in attendance at the meeting. After 12 years of serving, President Gordon Michalson announced he would be stepping down to pursue full-time teaching. O’Shea will secede Michalson on July 1.
