More than 150 Sarasota County youngsters won tickets to see the Baltimore Orioles take on the Pittsburgh Pirates March 14, at Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota.

They had participated in the Orioles Big League Reader program, sponsored for the second consecutive year by the Sarasota County libraries and the Baltimore Orioles. Children who read three or more books in the month of February received a free ticket to the game.

Steve Barosh, 10, who plays in the 10-and-under division of the Venice Little League, was selected to throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

The Sarasota County Commission issued a proclamation designating March 14 as Big League Reader Day.
