+ Sarasota County Area Transit director resigns
Sarasota County Area Transit Director Anthony Beckford resigned his post Tuesday amidst a SCAT revelation that al most half of the county’s bus fleet had expired fire extinguishers. The revelation caused many SCAT routes to have numerous route service delays Tuesday as the buses were equipped with proper fire extinguishers.
Extinguishers had been expired for one day on 25 of the 56 regular SCAT buses.
Beckford, a county employee since 2005 who had an annual salary of $93,000, was on a performance improvement plan after receiving a negative evaluation.
