Cops Corner: East County

The following information was gathered from incident and arrest reports obtained from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

April 6
Freebies
12:48 p.m. — 2900 block of 53rd Avenue East. Petit theft first degree. The defendant entered the store and selected several items valued at $46.10. She then concealed the items in her purse and proceeded to the register, where she paid for some of the items but failed to pay for the concealed items. Loss-prevention employees apprehended the defendant and recovered the stolen items. The defendant was arrested and transported to the Manatee County Jail. The responding deputy discovered the defendant had blue pills in her purse. She stated they were oxycodone for which she has a prescription.

April 18
Fake filing
10:37 a.m. — 4500 block of Egmont Drive. Fraudulent use/possession of another’s ID without consent. The victim reported an unknown person(s) fraudulently used his Social Security number to file a 2011 federal tax return.

April 19
Missing mobile
10 a.m. — 11100 block of Lost Creek Terrace. Theft from building $300 to $5,000. The victim reported the theft of his phone from the gym at the listed location.

April 20
Tagless trailer
2:30 p.m. — 6100 block of 42nd Street Circle East. Vehicle parts petit theft. The complainant reported the tag from his trailer had been removed. He stated he last saw his tag the night before when he began to clean his boat and trailer. He then noticed it was gone April 20, when he went to finish cleaning his boat and trailer. He stated he didn’t give anyone permission to remove his tag.

4:30 p.m. — 4700 block of Sabal Key Drive. Unarmed burglary of an unoccupied dwelling. Unknown person(s) entered the victim’s residence by prying the rear sliding door open. Once inside, they removed the listed property and fled in an unknown direction by unknown means.

Hot hardware
4:58 p.m. — 7000 block of 36th Avenue East. Theft $300 to $5,000. The suspect took numerous tools from the victim while he worked for him. The suspect has since returned some of the tools; however, the victim indicated he is still missing several items.

April 22
Baker Act
7:42 p.m. — 4400 block of Sandner Drive. Baker Act. The juvenile is diagnosed with a mental illness and is prescribed medication. The juvenile didn’t take his medication April 22, and after interviewing the child, the responding deputy determined he met the criteria to be taken into protective custody for a Baker Act to be evaluated. Other circumstances other than not taking his medication also were discovered during the interview, which met the criteria.

2:56 p.m. — 6500 block of Anchor Loop. Fraudulent use/possession of another’s ID without consent. An unknown person obtained the victim’s debit card number by unknown means and used it to make a fraudulent purchase in Georgia in the amount of $67.58 without her permission or knowledge.

REPORTED APRIL 20
Clean sweep
1:35 p.m. — 7600 block of Charleston Street. Theft $300 to $5,000. An unknown person stole several items from the victim’s residence. She stated she is unaware who stole the items but stated she had some unknown females cleaning her house earlier in the week. The complainant stated she called the jeweler to make sure she hadn’t taken the items to get fixed. She stated she just wanted the police report to give to her insurance company.
