+ Meteors 9U wins two-state showdown
The Meteors 9U travel baseball team captured the Georgia-Florida Showdown April 20-22, in Valdosta, Ga.
The top four 9U teams from Georgia and the top four 9U teams from Florida battled it out for the championship.
The Meteors play four pool games — one game against each of the four Georgia teams. Following pool play, the top Florida team and the top Georgia team competed for the Showdown Championship.
The Meteors went 3-1 in pool play, defeating the previously undefeated Atlanta Angels 6-4, the East Cobb Titans 10-6 and the Georgia Bulldogs 13-1. The team’s lone loss was an 8-5 decision to the East Cobb Astros.
The Meteors avenged their pool play loss, coming back from an 11-0 deficit in the bottom of the sixth inning to win 12-11.
Championship players include: Chase Yniguez, Connor Krug, Camden Martin, Nicolas Hadad, Jake Krug, Caden Chamberlin, John Schroeder, Sean Vitug, Stone Frishman, Dalton Roby and Satchel Norman.
+ River Dawgs win championship
The 10U East Manatee River Dawgs captured the Play it Again Sports Championship April 21-22, in Port Charlotte.
The River Dawgs went 4-0, holding their opponents to just two runs in four games. The team defeated the Charlotte Stingrays and the Southwest Florida Eagles in both pool play and the final round to win the title.
Aaron Combs and Robbie Goecker both hit their first home runs and Dalton Buckner also hit a home run.
+ East Manatee teams earn victories
The East Manatee Bulldog Navy Wildcat and Navy Panther teams both earned victories April 21.
The Navy Wildcat team improved to 3-1 with a 14-8 victory over the previously unbeaten Seminole team. Emma Fazio scored her fourth touchdown of the season. Hunter Barnes connected with Nima Gore for a two-point conversion to tie the game. Barnes later connected with Tyler Brown for the game-winning touchdown. Barnes, Niko Traylor and Dylan Townson each had an interception.
The Navy Panther team beat the Seminoles 22-6. Dusty Peebles ran for two touchdowns and caught a touchdown pass from Zack Staton. Peebles also connected with Kyle Brown and Erik Ross for two-point conversions. Staton, Ross and Peebles all had interceptions.
