The Florida Supreme Court ruled today that term limits for county commissioners are constitutional.
The unanimous upholding dealt a blow to Sarasota County Commissioner Jon Thaxton’s pursuit of a fourth term.
Voters approved two four-year terms for Sarasota County Commissioners in 1998, but the 12th Judicial Circuit Court ruled the amendment unconstitutional in a 2005 case.
Thaxton could not be reached for comment. Thaxton has previously said he will remain in the race as long as he legally is permitted to do so.
