UPDATE: Sarasota County repainted the all of the spaces in the municipal parking lot behind Siesta Market in Siesta Key Village today. The lot was closed by 8 a.m. and reopened this afternoon.

Sarasota County is expected to repaint the two handicap spaces in the municipal parking lot behind Siesta Market in Siesta Key Village today. The lot is closed but a crew hasn’t arrived to begin relining the spots, which was expected to start at 6:30 a.m.

There are barricades at the north and south entrances to the lot with signs on two reading: “Lot Closed, May 11, 2012.”

Organizations, including the Siesta Key Village Association and the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, leveled complaints about the lot, which is currently missing nearly all of it’s parking lines.

During the May 7 budget workshop preparing the Sarasota Board of County Commissioners for the coming fiscal year’s budget, Sarasota County Public Works Executive Director Jim Harriott said there was an upcoming spending bill that included new paint for the county-maintained lot.
