Police searching for bank robbery suspect.

→ A man who covered his face with a mask robbed a Fruitville Road SunTrust Bank Thursday afternoon.

The Sarasota Police Department is looking for a suspect who robbed the SunTrust Bank, 3577 Fruitville Road, at 4 p.m. yesterday.

The suspect, who concealed his face with a mask, is believed to be a thin white male in his 20s or 30s that’s no taller than 6-foot. The suspect also appears to have multiple tattoos, including a circular tattoo on the right side of his neck and a colorful tattoo on his right forearm ... [click

Architect reveals Gulf Gate Library concept

→ The architecture company charged with designing the new Gulf Gate Library unveiled conceptual designs at an open house yesterday.

Harvard Jolly, the St. Petersburg-based architecture firm, revealed the initial renderings of the new Gulf Gate Library last night at an open house at St. Andrew United Church of Christ.

Members of the Gulf Gate Teen Advisory came out to inspect the conceptual plans, which they like — especially how much space it affords. Kayla Owen, 14, and Caleb Hill, 19, explained to the Pelican Press that they had a difficult time coexisting with some of the older patrons of Gulf Gate library. “They were always telling us to quiet down when we had our meetings,” Owen said ... Dorfman files to run for commission again

→ Sarasota city resident Richard Dorfman will run for one of the two at-large city commission seats that are up for grabs in March.

Former Sarasota City Commission candidate Richard Dorfman, who narrowly missed out on a runoff election in May 2011 for the District 1 seat, is ready to try again to attain a seat on the commission.

On Friday, Dorfman confirmed for The Sarasota Observer he has filed paperwork at City Hall to become a candidate for the two at-large commission seats currently held by Mayor Suzanne Atwell and Commissioner Terry Turner that are up for grabs next year ... [click here to read on!]
