PREEN & CHIC: Q&A with OLIVIA BONO

How can you walk on First Street without ever noticing the beautiful window displays at Juno & Jove?  Not only are they extremely creative, but they also display a fresh take on style. Olivia Bono is the owner of this eco-friendly boutique, which launched in 2006 and has since acquired amazing reviews and a local and international fan base. I love the store's ethnic pieces and bold accessories; the hard-to-find designers bring luxury without harming Mother Earth. I caught up with Olivia this week and asked a few questions as she was getting ready for this weekend's Best of Downtown Boutique Summer Sale!

PREEN & CHIC: In a pocket-sized statement, how did the store come about?

Olivia Bono: While studying EU law in Brussels, I became accustomed to shopping at stores with public philosophical statements. I knew when I came came back to the States I wouldn't have that luxury, so I thought I'd create my own curated collection of sustainable goods.

P&C: Why name the store "Juno and Jove?"

OB: Juno and Jove are the Roman names of the Greek gods Hera and Zeus ... Juno represented morality to the Romans and Jove always wanted the best in everything, hence we find in their pairing the marriage of morality and craftsmanship!

P&C: Who do you go to for fashion advice?

OB: Fashion is about individual expression so I generally trust my instincts, but I'm inspired by the street style I see in my travels.

P&C: Where do you like to shop?

OB: I try and shop downtown Sarasota when I'm here, but admittedly, I bring home many wondrous things as I am out hunting for Juno and Jove's next collection.

P&C: Any trend you are embracing this summer?

OB: Hello, maxi skirts.

P&C: Top tracks you have been listening to lately?

P&C: Latest obsession?

OB: Periwinkle. I can't get enough of it ... anyone know where I can find it on a chesterfield-style sofa?
