Letter-writing campaign
8:58 p.m. — 800 block of Broadway.
Suspicious Circumstance. A woman found a typed note attached to her car telling her to remove her Obama 2012 bumper sticker from her vehicle.

May 12
What happens on Longboat …
10 p.m. — 5600 block of GMD.
Domestic Disturbance. Police drove a couple vacationing on the island to their hotel after an argument during dinner. Both the man and woman had trouble walking, and the woman was so intoxicated that she held onto the front bumper of the police car before falling onto the sidewalk and scraping her knee.

Doggy paddle
12:06 p.m. — One block of Winslow Place.
Dog Nuisance. A man complained that his neighbor’s dog barks continuously during his twice-daily swims with his owner in the swimming pool.

June 1
Open-and-shut case
12:45 a.m. — 500 block of Sutton Place.
Disturbance. A man reported that his neighbor opened and closed her garage door multiple times between 12:41 a.m. and 12:48 a.m. The neighbor told police that she was retaliating for the man’s loose floorboards that keep her awake at night.

Family honor
9:12 p.m. — 4300 block of Exeter Drive. Disturbance. A man gave a fake name to police because he didn’t want to embarrass his family after neighbors saw him yelling and talking to himself in the condominium pool. He then got out and began shoving chairs and other pool furniture around. He was arrested for resisting arrest.

June 8
VIP treatment
1:10 a.m. — 4500 block of GMD.
Disturbance. Police found a man in a garage who had been banging on condo doors yelling “Bree!” while shirtless and smelling like alcohol. The man said he was trying to get his dog out of his SUV and warned police not to harass him because he is a very important person. He later called the police station and tried to get the dispatcher fired.

July 2
Wet noodle
11:56 a.m. — 4700 block of GMD.
Missing Person. A man’s wife reported him missing after she and her sons were unable to locate him, but found his shirt and phone on a beach chair. A few minutes into a police search, the man waded to shore. He had fallen asleep on a foam noodle in the Gulf and drifted three-fourths of a mile before a boater spotted him and gave him a ride.

July 4
Ruffling feathers
11:38 a.m. — 7100 block of Longboat Drive N.
Animal Nuisance. A woman reported that a male peacock keeps attacking her car when it sees its reflection in the glossy finish on the side of her car. She asked whether the bird could be removed.

July 13
Living space?
9:14 a.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Parkway.
Suspicious Circumstance. A construction worker told police that he saw a man crawling out from under a vacant restaurant building around 4:30 a.m. The man stood up, said “hello” and walked off.

July 27
The naked truth
5:36 p.m. — 6300 block of GMD.
A caller reported that a Jet Skier was possibly nude. Police found two Jet Ski riders nearby who were, in fact, clothed. Dispatch told police that the caller only thought that the Jet Skier was nude and also said that the riders almost struck his daughter.

July 30
Sound suspicious?
8:31 p.m. — 1200 block of GMD.
Suspicious Person. A condominium guard reported a suspicious man in the area who was wearing a light color shirt and khaki shorts, carrying a backpack and asking in a French accent about rental units. The suspicious man told police he just started a new job as a pastry baker at a nearby shop and found information about available rentals on the Key through Craigslist.

11:03 a.m. — 4000 block of GMD.
Property Found. A man found half a set of dentures on the beach.

Aug. 7
Wrong drive-thru
12:58 p.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Parkway.
Reckless Driving. A guard reported that an older woman drove the wrong way through the community gates and street before exiting her vehicle at the new CVS nearby. The woman said that she got turned around while trying to find her way into CVS and was unaware that the new store was open.

Aug. 9
Egg-cellent advice
8:06 a.m. — 5700 block of GMD.
Vandalism. A man reported that someone threw eggs at his vehicle while it was parked in a condominium lot. Police suggested that he wash the vehicle and call them if he found any damages.

Aug. 11
Different accounts
3:33 p.m. — 5200 block of GMD.
Disturbance/Conduct. A woman told police that her roommate owed her money and had hit her the day before, leaving her with a black eye. The roommate disagreed, saying that the woman’s black eye came from getting robbed the night before while trying to buy drugs.

Aug. 12
Change of heart
12:24 p.m. — 100 block of N. Shore Road.
Beverage Violation. A man told police, “Go ahead, write me a ticket,” when police told him that alcohol is not allowed on the beach, then said, “F--- that and I ain’t signing it,” when police attempted to get his thumbprint and signature for the ticket. Police explained the citation to the man’s family members.

Sept. 25
Rules were made to be broken
7:48 a.m. — 5500 block of GMD. 
Animal/Dog Nuisance. A man refused to answer police questions about whether his dog had been off of its leash in a park, saying he could self-incriminate. The man compared his dog being off the leash to driving 46 mph in a 45 mph zone. He also said that people are neurotic and parks are meant for playing.

Sept. 26
Time for a change
12:12 p.m. — 6900 block of GMD.
 Suspicious Person. Police responded to a suspicious incident involving a man who was possibly nude in a vehicle parked in a vacant gas station lot. The man said that there were no bathrooms to change in and thought that it would be OK to change clothes in his vehicle.

Sept. 30
Foreign concept
12:46 a.m. — 5800 block of GMD. 
Disturbance. A woman told police she brought a Polish man from Texas who spoke little English to her home to paint her house. She told police the Polish man began to call her names, and she didn’t appreciate his attitude. They both agreed to go to their separate rooms and stay away from each other until the man flew back to Texas.

Oct. 6
Fight for the right to party
12:58 a.m. — 500 block of Gulf Bay Road.
Disturbance/Noise. Police arrested the 20-year-old host of a house party but agreed to give the man, who was scheduled to deploy for the Army the next week, a break if he cleaned up the beer cans outside the property and left the next morning. The man was arrested the next day, when police returned and found the man and his friends still there with liquor and a kegerator.

Rules of engagement
6:16 p.m. — 5700 block of GMD.
Trespassing. A man apologized for being rude to a condominium resident who told him he and three others who were staying at a hotel across the street weren’t allowed to enter the beach from the condo property. The man said that the group was trying to be clandestine because they were trying to watch a man propose to his daughter.

Oct. 14
Buffer zone
1:39 p.m. — 3800 block of GMD.
Sex Offense/Indecent Exposure. A woman tried to ignore a nude sunbather near the area where she was fishing but could no longer ignore the naked man when he began to touch himself. She described the man as in his 50s, and, not surprisingly, very tan.

Oct. 15
He’ll rock this exam
1:09 p.m. — 5300 block of GMD.
Suspicious Person. A 22-year-old man who was reportedly throwing rocks at vehicles while waiting at a bus stop told police he was trying to burn the nervous energy he had about an upcoming dog-grooming exam.
