Siesta park seawall repair goes out for bid

Sarasota County is moving ahead with plans to fix the concrete wall that protects Bay Island Park from Sarasota Bay wake.

The county purchasing department posted an advertisement Nov. 21, for the park project, which is expected to cost $856,000. Interested contractors have one month from the posting date to bid on the seawall replacement and sidewalk improvements at the Siesta Key park, which sits under the north bridge.

County staff estimates the project, which also includes replacing the sidewalks along the seawall, will take the contractor close to six months.

The contractor will replace and add landscaping, including four oak trees and eight seagrape plants, according to design plans.

The county replaced part of the ailing infrastructure in the county-owned portion south of the bridge in 2010, but the next replacement is for 800 feet of the seawall stretching under the park and onto the city of Sarasota owned north end of the park.
